What do they mean when they say self employed health insurance?
This merely means that you either own a small business or are working as a 1099 subcontractor and are provided no benefits.
Shopping for health insurance as an independent business owner or as a self-employed contractor can be a challenge. There are ways to
still find affordable health coverage policies if you take the time to shop around.
Regardless of whether you are a small business owner or working 1099, the same evaluation criteria apply.
Ask yourself what is most important to you:
Deductible: this is an amount you pay during the year out of your pocket prior to having the policy coverage take over.
Co-payments: how much is your responsibility every time you receive any type of medical service.
Does it include any specific categories that you may need, such as mental health, prescription, maternity, vision, dental, chiropractic, etc.
And finally, what can you afford? The last thing anyone would want is to obtain coverage that is barely affordable and then have it cancelled due to the inability to pay!
